Overview And Mission
About IFAS Center for Leadership
The IFAS Center for Leadership is the umbrella organization for all current and future IFAS programs and institutes focusing on leadership development. The Center’s purpose is to provide broad vision and strategic insight for these programs by coordinating and integrating the many leadership development opportunities and activities across the University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS).
The Center’s programs revolve around two core areas of leadership development:
- Academic Leadership Development focused on providing leadership education and training programs for students, staff and faculty.
- Professional Leadership Development focused on leadership education and training programs for agriculture and natural resource professionals, community leaders and government officials.
In each of these areas, the Center features a number of innovative research-based programs available through UF/IFAS and tailored to the specific needs of each of these groups.
The Center’s mission is to increase and expand the leadership and entrepreneurial skills of the current and next generation of agriculture and natural resources leaders, whose influence extends from local to global contexts. IFAS faculty and staff, whose research and expertise is at the forefront of leadership development, are the backbone of this enterprise.
As the agricultural and natural resources industry face new challenges, it is crucial that our state’s most valuable resources have secure leadership for future generations. More broadly, it is our belief that in order to meet the global challenges that come with feeding the world, it is imperative to cultivate effective leaders who can bring world-class knowledge and experience to tackle tomorrow’s challenges today.
